Exciting Week & Brand New Designs...

After launching my new scientific jewellery range late last month, I am happy to say that my rather risky venture appears to be succeeding (phew!).

This week I was lucky enough to be featured on two very popular blogs- one in Russian (!). I was very excited to discover a blog post about Morphologica on the Mind Hacks blog- a psychology and neuroscience blog. The featured piece was my Pyramidal Neuron necklace:

'Morphologica is a neuroscientist in the final stages of her PhD who also makes wonderful brain-inspired jewellery. The piece in the picture is the lovely pyramidal neuron necklace, although there are also earrings and necklaces inspired by the double helix, the contours of the cortical surface and cell proliferation. And if you're a jewellery wearer (sadly, I can never find the shoes to match) you can pick up any of the pieces from Morphologica's online store.' www.mindhacks.com
. . .

I've had a bit of a rush of sales this week, so need to create some more in a hurry!! I did manage to sneak some time today to add some brand new designs:
Helical Symmetry- double helix DNA necklace

bRain- raindrop necklace with brain contours

Multiply- proliferating cell earrings

Pyramidal- pyramidal neuron necklace

bRain- raindrop earrings with brain contours

Geek is the New Cool- geek necklace

Section- laser-engraved brain necklace

So this Sunday has been an unusually productive one ;)
I'm also working on a new more complicated design at the moment, but I think it will take a while to develop it....

My New Etsy Store!!!!!!

I've finally opened my new store!!!! There are still more pieces to come, but I have some up for you to take a peek at.

This is the story behind the store (from my profile):

I am in the final stages of completing my PhD in neuroscience, and have created Morphologica to have a bit of fun with a normally serious subject.

During my research, I have discovered that science can be surprisingly beautiful- single cells viewed under a microscope, intricate networks of cells important for learning and memory, and even the curving structure of the brain itself. I have tried to capture some of this beauty in the Morphologica pieces, focusing on the shape or morphology of a variety of subjects studied in neuroscience.

Helical Symmetry- double helix DNA earrings
(these are my favourites- I definitely have to make some for myself!)

bRain- raindrop earrings with brain contours

I am still running my other store VintagePrincipessa, but creating pieces for Morphologica is really something that's more a reflection of my real interests....I have to confess that I'm not a big princess dress wearer ;) I am definitely a nerd though!

Weekend Weddings

Vintage 80s Gunne Sax Pink Prom Dress- coming soon...

Yesterday I was contacted by a journalist from the Sydney Morning Herald regarding a story she's writing on new approaches to weddings as a result of the financial crisis. My vintage princess dress store VintagePrincipessa.etsy.com might get a mention in Sunday's paper as a source of affordable (and eco-friendly) wedding dresses, so I thought I'd share a sneak peak of a couple of the dresses I'm going to put up before then, and some of my other princessy dresses (just for fun). LittleMo will be happy- she's the leader of the princess dress fan club ;)
